About Founder’s

Devang Singhania and Shachi Singhania founded Beyond Water in 2020 with a mission to disrupt the Indian beverage industry. The couple identified a significant opportunity in the functional drink space while observing the lack of healthy, convenient hydration options available to Indian consumers.

Devang brings expertise from his family-owned tea estate background, providing the company with deep knowledge of beverage sourcing and quality control. This heritage proved invaluable when the company later expanded into ready-to-drink iced tea products using single estate tea leaves.

  • Family-owned tea estate heritage
  • Founded during pandemic in 2020
  • Combined expertise in beverage sourcing and marketing
  • Vision to reduce single-use plastic bottles

Shark’s and Founder’s QnA

Devang, can you explain what exactly is a liquid water enhancer and how it works?
This is essentially a concentrated liquid that you add to plain water to give it flavor and vitamins. Just 3-4 drops in a glass of water transforms it into a refreshing flavored drink with essential vitamins and minerals, without the sugar load of traditional beverages.

What are your current sales numbers and monthly revenue?
We are currently doing approximately ₹10 lakhs per month in sales. We started operations just over a year ago and have seen steady growth month-over-month as consumer awareness increases.

Why do you need ₹75 lakhs and how did you arrive at the ₹18.75 crore valuation?
We are seeking ₹75 lakhs for 4% equity. The valuation reflects our growth potential, proprietary formulations, and the expanding functional beverage market in India. We need the capital for inventory, marketing expansion, and scaling our distribution network.

Vineeta, what are your thoughts on the product category and market education?
My concern is that Indian consumers are not yet familiar with water enhancers. This requires significant consumer education and marketing spend. How do you plan to tackle this awareness challenge?

We understand the education challenge. Our strategy focuses on sampling and digital marketing targeting fitness enthusiasts and millennials who are early adopters. We are also expanding into RTD formats to make the brand more accessible.
This makes sense, but the beverage market is extremely competitive with established players having deep pockets.

Aman, what is your cost structure and margins?
Our gross margins are healthy at around 60-65%. The product has good unit economics once we achieve scale. The challenge is the initial customer acquisition cost, which improves with repeat purchases.

Anupam, why should we invest in Beyond Water when there are so many beverage options?
We are not just another beverage company. We solve the plastic waste problem by reducing the need to buy bottled drinks. One bottle of our enhancer replaces 30-40 plastic bottles. Plus, we offer cocktail mixers and vitamin concentrates, making us a lifestyle brand.

Namita, I am concerned about the valuation. You are pre-revenue scale with just ₹10 lakhs monthly sales asking for almost ₹19 crore valuation. How do you justify this?
We believe the valuation reflects our IP, formulation expertise, and the massive TAM. However, we are open to negotiation because we value the strategic guidance you Sharks can provide.

I will offer ₹37.5 lakhs for 7.5% equity, but I want Aman to come in with me because he understands D2C brands.
I will match Namita’s offer with ₹37.5 lakhs for another 7.5%. Together we offer ₹75 lakhs for 15% equity.

Can we negotiate on the equity percentage?
15% is our final combined offer. We bring complementary skills – Namita with healthcare and branding, myself with D2C scaling and distribution.

We accept the deal of ₹75 lakhs for 15% equity split between Namita Thapar and Aman Gupta.
Great, welcome to the Shark Tank family. We look forward to scaling this together.

Beyond Water Post-Show Update

Following their Shark Tank India appearance, Beyond Water experienced significant growth and product line expansion. In October 2023, the company launched its first ready-to-drink iced tea products available in peach and lemon flavors, leveraging the funding and mentorship received from the Sharks.

The brand successfully entered major quick commerce platforms and expanded distribution to airports across major Indian cities. The founders also initiated export conversations for Middle East and Southeast Asian markets, planned for 2024 rollout. The RTD launch marked a strategic pivot from purely concentrates to accessible ready-to-drink formats, addressing the consumer education challenge mentioned during the pitch.

Business Analysis & Lessons

The Beyond Water Shark Tank India pitch offers valuable lessons for early-stage FMCG entrepreneurs. The founders demonstrated flexibility in valuation, accepting a significant down-round from their initial ask to secure strategic investors. This willingness to prioritize mentorship and network over rigid valuation proved crucial for long-term success.

The deal structure highlighted the importance of bringing complementary Sharks together. By splitting the investment between Namita and Aman, Beyond Water gained access to diverse expertise spanning healthcare compliance, brand building, D2C operations, and distribution scaling. This approach often proves more valuable than single-investor deals for complex consumer brands.

  • Valuation flexibility attracts better strategic partners
  • Dual investor approach diversifies mentorship access
  • Product education requires patient capital and marketing
  • Expanding from concentrates to RTD accelerates adoption
  • Sustainability messaging enhances brand differentiation

Pitch Conclusion

Beyond Water Shark Tank India journey exemplifies how innovative beverage startups can successfully navigate the tank by demonstrating market traction, accepting strategic guidance, and remaining flexible on valuation terms. The company’s evolution from liquid enhancers to ready-to-drink products showcases adaptive leadership responsive to market feedback.

For entrepreneurs watching this pitch, the key takeaway centers on balancing ambitious vision with practical business realities. While the founders initially valued their company at nearly ₹19 crores, they recognized that securing the right partners at a ₹5 crore valuation provided better long-term value than holding firm on numbers without investment.
